GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK — Moose-Wilson Road in Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) will reopen to vehicles on Friday, June 19, after the segment between Moose and the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve had been closed for construction.
Park visitors will be able to travel the full length of the road between the Granite Canyon Entrance Station and Moose. Drivers of the scenic, narrow road are not totally out of the woods yet, though; in its announcement of the road reopening, GTNP noted that intermittent delays of up to 45 minutes or more would be possible through Labor Day while construction vehicles are still in the vicinity.
The park is working toward realigning Moose-Wilson Road to meet a new Teton Park Roundabout, which will move the park entrance to allow “traffic to transition seamlessly to the Teton Park Road without passing through another entrance station,” per GTNP. The new roundabout will be located just north of the Moose Entrance Station at the current intersection of Menor’s Ferry Road and Teton Park Road.
GTNP reminds visitors that work is still being done to develop a new Death Canyon Trailhead, and that construction will continue at Death Canyon Road. Both the trailhead and the road will remain closed to vehicles for the season. Drivers should also remember that parts of the road will be unpaved gravel while construction is ongoing. Reduce speed, be prepared to stop, and follow instructions from flaggers.
Construction projects continue in other parts of the park: Taggart Lake Trail and Trailhead, Cottonwood Creek Picnic Area, Mormon Row, and the North Park Road (between Leeks Marina and Lizard Creek Campground). See the park’s dedicated road construction website here.
“As summer visitation increases, park officials encourage visitors to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use available trip-planning resources to help navigate construction impacts throughout the park,” GTNP said.
