JACKSON, Wyo. — Got a dull knife or bracelet with a broken clasp lying around the house?

Those items and more can get a second chance at usability this Saturday at the Teton County Library as it hosts the Teton Repair Café from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“Keep your good-but-broken stuff out of landfills, build skills, and get to know your community fixers!” the event announcement states. “Teton County Library, Teton Resilience Network, Teton Habitat ReStore, and Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling are hosting a free repair café, to which you can bring a variety of household, outdoor, and wearable items for minor repair help by volunteers.”

Repair stations at the café will include:

  • Jewelry repair: Simple repairs including replacing a broken clasp, soldering a snapped chain, or tightening a loose stone
  • Clothing and fabric repair: Simple sewing and mending repairs
  • Furniture repair: Fixing loose and broken joints
  • Knife and tool sharpening
  • Bike repair: Basic repairs and tune-ups including brake adjustment, shifting adjustments, bike fit fixes, flat tire mending, etc.
  • Computer diagnosis and troubleshooting
  • Lamp repair
  • Small appliance repair
  • Kids’ tinker table: Kids get to disassemble various items to learn the first step in repair

Those who have skills to lend can sign up to volunteer at the event using this form.

“Modeled after the international organization Repair Café, the Teton Repair Café is a pilot program of Teton Resilience Network, working to keep treasured items out of the landfill while building skills and community along the way, a mission actively supported by the three other presenting partners,” the event announcement states.
