JACKSON, Wyo. — The Virginian received approval on Monday from the town of Jackson for a resort license, in addition to their currently held retail liquor license.
New Wyoming statutes now allow for a single business to hold multiple liquor licenses. The change takes effect on July 1.
Currently, the retail liquor license allows alcohol sales for on-site consumption at the saloon, conference room, lobby and courtyard. The license also allows for the sale of off-site consumption through the liquor store.
According to the staff report, the Virginian requested a modification to restrict the retail liquor license to just cover off-premise sales at the liquor store. All other sales would be handled under the resort liquor license. Because the retail license is not up for renewal or transfer at this time, the Council is unable to add a condition to that license limiting it to liquor store sales only but because the resort license was approved, there is no need to utilize the retail license for on-premise consumption and therefore a condition is most likely not necessary.
Prior to the sale of the Virginian Lodge & RV Park to Orion Companies in 2020, the liquor license was suspended in March of 2019 after three failed compliance checks at the liquor store. Because the license covered the entire property, the Saloon had to also close for 120 days along with the liquor store. The Napierskie Family owned the property at the time.
The Virginian Saloon closed in August of 2020 for renovations.
