JACKSON, Wyo. — A large black Bernese Mountain Dog that ran away from her pet sitter on Lake Creek Drive in the Aspens Wednesday afternoon has been found this morning.
“Her name is Bear,” the owner’s friend said originally said on the Jackson Hole Pet Lost and Found Facebook page. “She is sweet. Please keep an eye out for her! Thank you!”
The dog was reported to have crossed the Village Road and was believed to still be somewhere in the West Bank.
The furry friend was found on the northern end of West Gros Ventre Butte after over a day and a half on its own. The owners say that if you see a loose dog on its own, you should report it as soon as possible. “Any strange dog on the loose should be reported in case its a missing dog.”
According to American Humane, never put yourself in harm’s way by attempting to capture an animal that is behaving aggressively. If you cannot safely approach the animal or if it runs away, call animal control or the police department immediately. Be sure to give the dispatcher the exact street address where the animal was last seen.
If you can identify tags on the animal you may be able to immediately contact the owner and return the pet to her or him. If the pet is wearing ID, but you are unable to immediately make contact with the owner, you may choose to hold onto the pet for a few hours and wait for a call back from the owner. If you choose this course of action, it is still advisable to immediately file a “found” report with your local animal shelter in case the owner calls or goes there to search for the pet. If you are unable to hold the pet, you can either take it to your local animal shelter or call your local animal control or police department to pick it up.
