WYOMING – Labor Day weekend crashes claimed the lives of two motorcyclists in separate incidents as the ‘100 deadliest days’ on state roadways wrapped up.
On Friday, August 31, at approximately 5:18pm, Idaho State Police investigated a motorcycle crash northbound on State Highway 31 near milepost 14, outside of Victor.
Gary McCord, 57, of Cortland, IL, was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway. McCord was ejected and the motorcycle went down an embankment.
McCord was not wearing a helmet, and was transported by air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls where he later died.
On September 3, Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the area for a two-vehicle collision at milepost 26.5 on US 85 near Cheyenne around 10:30am.
A 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling southbound on US 85 crossed the center lane and entered into the northbound lane of travel before colliding head-on with a 2008 Chevrolet Trail Blazer. The rider of the motorcycle was thrown from his vehicle and sustained fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
The driver of Trail Blazer received minor injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center by ground ambulance where he was treated and released. The crash caused US 85 north of Cheyenne to be temporarily closed for several hours while an investigation was completed.
The driver of the Harley Davidson motorcycle has been identified as Timothy Klibbe, 44, of Aurora, Colorado.
This is the 70th fatality on Wyoming’s highways in 2018 compared to 103 in 2017, 81 in 2016, and 108 in 2015 to date.
