SMOOT, Wyo. — The Travis Lake Fire on the West Zone of the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) is currently burning on approximately 3 acres, according to a Thursday morning update on BTNF’s Facebook page. The fire was reported on the afternoon of Monday, July 21, and is being fought by fire crews and smokejumpers.

According to the update, the blaze is currently 50% contained. Crews are working to remove hazardous trees from the area. The statement also says they are “focusing on mopping up heat near holding lines.”

The Travis Lake Fire is located on a ridge in timber east of Travis Lake, between Commissary Ridge and Little Corral Creek trails. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. No closures are in place, but the public is asked to avoid the area to allow crews to work safely and efficiently.
