JACKSON, Wyo. — The Town has been contacted about suspicious emails about “Business-Holders Memberships.”

“These are spam, phishing emails attempting to get community members to share personal information,” said the town. “If you receive one of these emails do not respond.”

The Town of Jackson will never contact community members from a Gmail address or request payment information, login credentials or any type of sensitive data through email.

Over the past few years, the Town of Jackson has seen an increase in phishing schemes misrepresenting themselves as the town.

“When we are made aware of these campaigns, we work with our police department to the extent possible and do our best to educate community members about keeping themselves and their private information safe online.”

When trying to determine if an email is legitimate, always consider the following.

  • Tone, grammar, and urgency –reread the email to see if any or all of these seem off.
  • If you weren’t expecting it, don’t open it! If you think it’s from a known contact of yours but aren’t sure, send a message via other means (text or phone) to see if it’s genuine.
  • Inconsistencies in email addresses, links, or domain names.
  • Never reply to suspicious emails.
