Update, 3:30 p.m.: Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Battalion Chief Chris Stiehl attributed the incident to a medical emergency, sharing that CPR was performed on the patient directly in the roadway. Cloud cover hampered the initial attempt at helicopter transport; the chopper landed at the top of the Pass but had to relocate to the Mike Yokel campground area when clouds started shifting rapidly and impaired the pilot’s visibility. Stiehl said he was grateful to the public for the patience shown while the medical scene unfolded right on the road this morning, noting what “a tough summer” it has been on the Pass.
Update, 12:45 p.m.: Traffic in the area has cleared. Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) told Buckrail an eastbound Jeep Grand Cherokee rear-ended a pickup truck, swerved, and then came to rest at a guardrail. The driver of the vehicle was life-flighted to Idaho. WHP is investigating the incident, noting that a potential medical condition afflicting the driver could be the root.
WILSON, Wyo. — Traffic near the summit of Teton Pass is still moving slowly following the report of a collision at milepost 11.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) issued a driver alert before 10 a.m. noting the travel lane was blocked. Emergency page-outs indicated a helicopter was involved in transporting a person involved in the crash to medical care.
According to the Jackson Hole News&Guide, a single-vehicle collision occurred at 7:47 a.m. and halted traffic for at least an hour.
