JACKSON, Wyo. — Mayor Hailey Morton Levinson appointed the town’s municipal officers during the regular Town Council meeting on Monday, July 15. These special officers will issue citations for parking violations and will help with the care of shelter animals, among other duties.
Bea Simms, Olivia Oliver, Elise Prestrude, Lupita Ruiz and April Martinez Mejia have been hired as Community Service Officers for the Jackson Police Department and to enforce the town’s Municipal Code.
Simms, Oliver and Prestrude will work as full-time Community Service Officers at the Jackson/Teton County Animal Shelter. Ruiz and Martinez were hired as Community Service Officers/Patrol to assist with parking enforcement and handle matters in parks and on pathways including dogs off leash and speed of E-bikes.
Wyoming State Statute 15-1-103 states that “the governing bodies of all cities and towns can appoint special municipal officers, who are not certified as peace officers, to issue citations to individuals” for a limited purpose.
