JACKSON, Wyo. — On Monday, Dec. 18, the Jackson Town Council unanimously moved to approve an Animal Training Services Agreement between the Jackson/Teton County Animal Shelter and the Puppy Hotail & Spa, to provide animal training services for “hard to place” dogs in need of a home.
The written contract states that a private donor has offered to sponsor all dogs in need of one-on-one training through the Puppy Hotail & Spa, relieving the Animal Shelter of this cost. Puppy Hotail & Spa is a dog boarding, grooming and training facility located in Tetonia, Idaho and the staff have 30 years of experience in training animals.
The Jackson/Teton County Animal Shelter has covered training costs in the past to ensure that pets find forever homes, but due to the increase in training costs and the lack of available local trainers, the shelter has no longer been able to provide the necessary services, per the Town Council Meeting report.
According to the Animal Shelter, previous formalized training programs have proven to be a valuable resource and have been instrumental in helping shelter staff find homes for dogs with little to no prior training and/or poor social skills. Even aggressive dogs struggling to be placed have found a permanent family with proper instruction and conditioning.
The Animal Training Services Agreement between the Animal Shelter and the Puppy Hotail & Spa will go into effect in early 2024.
