JACKSON, Wyo. — Wyoming will soubresaut into the tradition of ballet as San Francisco Ballet takes the stage for Dancers’ Workshop’s annual Gala and Community Performance.
Although the oldest ballet company in the country, San Francisco Ballet seeks to trailblaze dance both nationally and internationally, performing, commissioning and collaborating with exceptional artists across all disciplines.
“…I am interested in inviting outsiders into the art form…”

“I think it is the most creative company in North America,” said Tarama Rojo, artistic director for San Francisco Ballet in an article from the New York Times, “…and I am interested in inviting outsiders into the art form, and creating the future with them — whatever it may be.”
Accompanied by their Grammy-winning orchestra, nineteen Company dancers will perform at this year’s Gala on Thursday, July 27, with a reprised community performance on Friday, July 28. Held at the Center of the Arts in Jackson Hole, the performances will include Balanchine’s “Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux” and pas de deux from William Forsythe’s “Blake Works I,” Christopher Wheeldon’s “Cinderella” and Helgi Tomasson’s “Swan Lake,” in addition to “Violin Concerto” by SF Ballet Choreographer in Residence Yuri Possokhov.

“We are so excited and delighted to host the world-renowned San Francisco Ballet and their exceptional orchestra for their debut performance in Wyoming and our annual Gala,” says Babs Case, artistic cirector for Dancers’ Workshop. “This is a wonderful opportunity to experience artistic culture not yet seen in our community, and embrace the dynamic tradition of dance. We hope everyone in the community will come, celebrate and enjoy the passion of this company.”

San Francisco Ballet will begin their time in Jackson Hole with an open class for Dancers’ Workshop Junior Repertory Company students to share their knowledge and stories with local young dancers. Then, join us in The Center Theatre Thursday, July 27, for the full ballet experience with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 7 p.m. in the Center Lobby, the Gala Performance at 8 p.m., all followed with an opportunity to meet the artists in a post-performance reception at 9:30 p.m. For those looking for a more casual evening of ballet, there will be a Community Performance July 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are on sale now for the Gala Performance and Community Performance. Visit dwjh.org for more information.
