DRIGGS, Idaho – The National Weather Service’s Pocatello, ID, office (NWS) has extended the flood warning in Teton Valley once again, noting that snowmelt could cause flooding of the Teton River near Driggs through early Saturday, June 15.

Teton Valley has been warned of flooding since Tuesday, June 4. The NWS’ latest warning states that minor flooding continues to occur in the area and that additional flooding is forecasted in the next few days.

NWS shared that the flood stage had reached 4.6 feet by noon on Tuesday, June 11. Cache Bridge boat ramp is underwater, and if the water hits 5 feet, livestock and pasture land will likely be flooded, according to the warning.

“The river is expected to rise to a crest of 4.6 feet tomorrow morning,” the warning states. “However, there is some uncertainty, the warmest temperatures don’t occur until Thursday this week. The snowpack is quickly diminishing, which would lend to the peak already happening or occurring tomorrow afternoon. However, if there is enough snow, the peak may actually occur late Thursday into Friday. By the weekend colder temperatures are very likely, which will bring a downward trend in river flows.”

Teton Valley residents and visitors are encouraged to exercise caution when walking near riverbanks. It is never safe to drive or walk into flood waters. For more flood safety information, see the NWS website.
