JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County’s All Hazards Emergency Management (AHEM) announced that its draft of the Wyoming Region 8 Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan is now available for public review and comment through Jan. 31.

According to AHEM, the plan educates residents on the the most significant natural hazards in the area and outlines what Teton County is doing to mitigate them. AHEM wrote via press release that the Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan assesses the risks posed by floods, wildfires, winter storms, hazardous materials incidents and more. It also identifies ways to reduce those risks along with hazard mitigation goals and mitigation projects for the County.

County planning teams, including representatives from all municipalities and districts, developed the plan over the past 12 months with assistance from a consultant. In addition, a public survey was used to solicit input on hazards and ideas for mitigation projects, according to AHEM.

Wyoming has eight Regional Emergency Response Teams with Region 8 representing Teton County. Region 8 is now soliciting public comment on the plan before it is finalized and submitted for review and approval by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The final plan will be adopted by each participating entity in Teton County before it goes into effect.

People can review and submit public comment on the draft emergency plan by visiting the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security website. For more information or questions, e-mail Teton County Emergency Management at: em@tetoncountywy.gov.
