JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County Search & Rescue (TCSAR) has shared the news of another snowmobile incident that required its involvement.
On Tuesday, Feb. 13, TCSAR was mobilized to assist two snowmobilers near Slate Creek in the Gros Ventre Mountains. A man and a woman were riding tandem when their snowmobile fell through the ice on a beaver pond. They got themselves out of the water, but the snowmobile sank into the pond.

The snowmobilers, both in their late 40s, used a satellite device to signal their distress. TCSAR volunteers approached the scene on snowmobiles. The distressed snowmobilers were discovered to be “wet and cold but otherwise uninjured,” according to TCSAR’s statement. TCSAR transported them back to town.
“It’s suspected that the beaver pond in question could be a new feature in this area,” TCSAR said via Facebook. “With below average snowfall and above average temperatures this winter, all backcountry users should please be leery of thin ice when crossing water features.”
