JACKSON, Wyo. – With Taxi2Fly officially grounded, space in the town’s municipal parking garage will be freed up beginning today.
The Town of Jackson’s Public Works Department will today begin removing “Taxi2Fly” parking signs from the parking garage located on the corner of South Milward Street and West Simpson Avenue. These spaces, formerly reserved for participants in the “Taxi2Fly” program, will be available to all members of the public.
A 2019 parking study identified several areas where improvements could be implemented to provide additional parking for employees and visitors to the downtown district. One of the areas identified was a portion of the parking garage utilized for the “Taxi2Fly” program. In working with the Jackson Hole Airport, town officials have announced plans to convert the upper portions of the parking garage to 48-hour public parking.
A key recommendation of the 2019 Downtown Parking and Mobility Management Plan stated “Convert Taxi2Fly Parking to Employee Parking.” The configuration change should increase parking availability within the town parking garage that can be used by employees as well as customers and visitors. Employee parking downtown has been identified as one place where changes could be made to alleviate congestion and parking issues for visitors. With the change, the public will be able to utilize all four levels of the parking garage for up to 48-hours at a time.
The spaces being converted will be subject to the same rules and regulations as the rest of the parking garage. The spaces are not intended to be utilized by the public for long-term storage of vehicles. Following a 48-hour use, a vehicle must vacate the parking space and parking garage for a minimum of four hours before returning to park in the facility. No commercial vehicles, freight carrying vehicles or trailers will be allowed to park in the public parking structure.
“The Jackson Police Department would like to thank those who voluntarily comply with laws that pertain to the parking garage and signage,” said Police Chief Todd Smith. “This ensures equal access to all residents and visitors who utilize the facility to run errands and shop in the downtown area.”
