JACKSON, Wyo. — PAWS is different from other animal welfare organizations in that it provides support to both local pets and pet owners.

“How is PAWS different?” PAWS Senior Director of Philanthropy Eunice Nicholson asked. “This is the most common question we get when meeting with donors and supporters. There has been a lot of confusion in the community about what PAWS does and how we are different from other animal welfare organizations.”

PAWS differentiates itself through its unique approach. For the last 25 years, PAWS has supported both local pets and their people. Unlike other animal welfare organizations that focus primarily on rescuing and rehoming animals, PAWS recognizes the interconnectedness of animal and human welfare. This holistic approach allows PAWS to address animal welfare issues “at both ends of the leash,” ensuring that both pets and their owners receive the support they need.

PAWS’ commitment to serving both pets and people reflects a deep understanding of the challenges faced by pet owners in the community. Many people need help today due to the housing crisis, economic pressures and unforeseen medical costs, which have forced some to make tough decisions about their beloved pets. While PAWS operates an open-admission local shelter, it distinguishes itself through its emphasis on social services.

Whether providing financial assistance for veterinary care and spay/neuter surgeries, offering safe shelter for pets from violence at home and during disasters, supplying pet food or delivering educational programs, PAWS addresses the root causes of pet relinquishment. This compassionate and comprehensive strategy makes PAWS a unique and invaluable local resource, ensuring that pets stay in happy homes and out of shelters.

PAWS will be participating in Old Bill’s Fun Run on Saturday, Sept. 7. To keep the shelter doors open and local support services available to community members, the organization needs support. Remember PAWS when making Old Bill’s donations this year!
