WILSON, Wyo. — On Friday, April 18, Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer was on hand to witness the breaking of ground for the new Stilson transit center.

Many community members also attended last week’s groundbreaking ceremony, which marked forward progress of the much debated project.

The County was awarded a BUILD Grant by the Federal Highway Administration in September 2020, to plan and construct the transit center. In July 2024, Commissioners approved a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for 5.4 acres of the County land that was donated by Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR).

“We are thrilled to see this transit center and park ‘n ride become a reality,” Teton BUILD Grant said via Facebook.

According to Teton County, the new transit center is to be built where the current gravel parking area is located and will include six bus bays, covered bike parking, EV charging and a paved and lit parking lot with 400 spaces. Beckley Park Way will also be rerouted around the northwest side of the new transit center, aimed at creating better traffic flow and to allow more room for moving wildlife.

Construction crews anticipate finishing the transit center, landscaping and revegetation through 2026.

In addition to the transit center, JHMR proposed a broader development plan for an adjacent 8.5 acre parcel in the Stilson Ranch area to build housing, a daycare center and retail. As an alternative plan to support wildlife, Teton County is considering a vegetation restoration plan, a conservation easement and possible recreation fields for the additional acreage.
