JACKSON, Wyo. — Last night during the boy’s varsity soccer game at Jackson Hole High School, a Star Valley player was seriously injured. A physician was on site and provided immediate attention before emergency services transported the player to St. John’s Health Center.
The Star Valley High School senior, Ethan Nelson, was transferred for further medical treatment and is reported to be stable.
Charlotte Reynolds, the Executive Director of Communications at Teton County School District (TCSD) #1, released a statement today commending the actions of those present at the field when the incident occurred.
“We are especially proud of our coaches and activity staff who remained calm while supporting fans, players, and parents,” said Reynolds.
“The entire team at TCSD #1 sends our well wishes for a full and speedy recovery to Ethan and our support to his family and friends and the entire Star Valley High School community during this difficult time.”
A post written today by Cambridge Caldwell on Ethan’s GoFundMe page provided an update on his condition.
“Great news! Ethan had his ventilator removed this morning! He is awake, talking and in good spirits. So grateful for all the love and support,” said Caldwell.
Additionally, TCSD is reminding students that school counselors are available to support those affected by this tragic incident. The Jackson Hole Counseling Center also has 24-hour emergency counseling services available by calling 733-2046.
A GoFundMe account has been set up for Ethan and his family.
