JACKSON, Wyo. — Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) shared a photo captured at night of the Milky Way over the John Moulton Barn in Mormon Row.

According to the GTNP website, the area northeast of Blacktail Butte was settled around the turn of the 19th century by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Unlike typical Western homesteads at the time, the Mormon homesteaders clustered their farms together in order to share labor and community.

The area was once the site of 27 homesteads due to relatively fertile soil, shelter from winds by the butte and access to the Gros Ventre River. Mormon Row Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

John and Thomas Alma Moulton were brothers who settled at Mormon Row and built two barns on adjacent homesteads. Photographers from around the world stop by the barns to snap pictures of the historic structures with the Teton Cathedral Group in the background.
