WYOMING – With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s a good time to be thankful for your significant other. In fact, if you have that special someone in your life and you live in Wyoming, it’s REALLY time to be thankful.
WalletHub’s recent study in statistics painted Wyoming as more the Cowboy State than the Equality State. The latest story from WalletHub titled, “2018’s Best & Worst States for Singles,” ranked Wyoming as no place to be if you are unattached.
Wyoming ranked near the bottom in percentage of adults that are single, so the inventory is slim pickin’s. Only Utah and Idaho had less singles of dating age.
The state also ranked 43rd in gender balance due mainly to the male-dominated mining industry in Wyoming. It’s nothing new to Jackson Hole locals, either, where for years the motto amongst guys looking for a girlfriend has been: “Bring your own, or wait your turn.”
The latest Census Bureau statistics shows things are becoming more equal but Wyoming is still gender-bent toward males. Depending on whose stats you believe, Wyoming is one of only a handful of states with more males than females (51-49%). Others are even, or have more women than men.
Another area where Wyoming ranked low for singles was locating a place to bring your date if you can find one. Availability of movie theatres was average but finding a restaurant in Wyoming is darn near impossible, statistically. Wyoming ranked 48th for restaurants per capita. Only Alaska and North Dakota have fewer.
Of the 182 cities ranked, Cheyenne and Casper were near the bottom in nearly all criteria.
As for Jackson, where is the best place to be looking for your future wife or husband? For men, try to find her in South Park where the ratio of men-to-women is 42:58? If you’re a lady, look for the shining knight in Teton Village where the ratio is 77:23, men-to-women. This data according to 2017 American Community Survey.
