Single-vehicle rollover kills one near Wheatland

WYOMING – A Texas man is dead after he rolled his GMC Sierra on Interstate 25 outside of Wheatland last Friday.

On March 8, 2019, a fatal crash occurred at milepost 100 on I-25 north of Wheatland, Wyoming. Around 12:30pm, Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the area for a single vehicle rollover.

A 2008 GMC Sierra was traveling northbound on Interstate 25 when the vehicle drifted off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

The driver of the GMC has been identified as 45-year-old Brownsville, Texas resident Arturo Vela. Vela was wearing his seatbelt but succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.

The incident is still under investigation.

This is the 26th fatality on Wyoming’s highways in 2019 compared to 12 in 2018, 10 in 2017, and 9 in 2016 to date.
