Update, 1:30 p.m.: Buckrail received confirmation from Jackson Police Department that a dog missing from a vehicle involved in the crash has been found.

WILSON, Wyo. — A vehicle collision on Teton Pass last night closed the artery for more than six hours and resulted in serious injuries to a juvenile.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Monday, Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) was alerted to a multi-vehicle cash near milepost 7. WHP stated in a Tuesday news release that initial reports described a large crash involving five cars, including a commercial tanker. Those reports also described a large gas spill and people trapped in their vehicles.

“However, when troopers arrived, they found this was not the case,” WHP said in a statement. “Troopers determined the incident involved only two vehicles — a passenger vehicle and a recreational vehicle pulling a trailer. There was a small gas spill that did not require a HAZMAT event. However, a juvenile occupant of the motorhome was airlifted with serious injuries.”

Because the investigation remains active, no further information has been released. Teton County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) posted to Facebook at 12:45 a.m. asking Teton Pass commuters to be on the lookout for a dog that went missing from one of the vehicles involved in the accident. TCSO stated that it is unknown whether the dog is injured, but that it is likely scared. If found, call dispatch at (307) 733-2331.

The Pass closed to vehicle traffic at 9:11 p.m. and reopened at 3:36 a.m. Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Battalion Chief Chris Stiehl told Buckrail on Monday night that seven people were involved in the collision; three of those people were transported to St. John’s Health, and one was flown to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
