LIVIGNO, Italy — Alta’s own Jaelin Kauf skied to Olympic glory on Wednesday at the Milan Cortina Olympics, earning a silver medal in the freestyle moguls final.

Kauf landed in second place with a score of 80.77, according to the NBC broadcast of the event. Fellow American Liz Lemley took gold with 82.30, and France’s Perrine Laffont won bronze with 78.00.

Kauf, who grew up skiing at Grand Targhee Resort, is competing in her third consecutive Winter Olympics. She placed 7th in moguls at the 2018 PyeongChang games and, four years later, brought home a silver medal from the 2022 Beijing games. In 2025, she was named the Dual Moguls World Champion.

Kauf is one of three hometown heroes competing at the winter games this year. Breezy Johnson, who also grew up skiing in the area, took home a gold medal in downhill skiing over the weekend.

“Walking in the Opening Ceremonies is an honor, but representing the values that define us is everything,” Kauf posted to Instagram last week. “I walk proudly for love, and for the people who lead with respect and kindness every single day. You are why I’m proud to represent Team USA on the Olympic stage.”

Following her 2022 silver, Gov. Mark Gordon appeared at a congratulatory ceremony at Grand Targhee, announcing that the resort would be naming a ski run “Silver Jae” in her honor and proclaiming April 10 “Jaelin Kauf Day.”

In December, she announced the launch of her Deliver the Love Foundation, which seeks to “empower girls in sports to find self-love and confidence both on and off the playing field,” per its mission statement.
