Teton County Sheriff Jim Whalen officially announced his endorsement for Democratic candidate Matt Carr.
In a written statement, Whalen praised Carr for his work as undersheriff, which Whalen says presents “many of the same issues [Carr] would face if he were sheriff”
“Matt has demonstrated time and time again he possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to fill the role as Teton County Sheriff,” Whalen wrote. “I’m happy to report that Matt has consistently made good decisions, and I have every confidence those good decisions will continue should he become the elected sheriff.”
Whalen also praised Carr for his commitment to education and the close relationships he has already built within the community.
The sheriff, Whalen concluded, should not be a partisan position—indeed, Whalen and Carr are registered to different political parties. Whalen is a registered Republican, while Carr is a registered democrat.
But, Whalen said, “party affiliation does not matter when it comes to who the next sheriff should be. What matters is who is going to be the best sheriff of Teton County, and without equivocation, I believe that person is Matt Carr.”
