JACKSON, Wyo. — With the recent completion of the seal coating and re-striping at the West Table boat ramp area in the Snake River Canyon, Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) announced that seal coating work will now move to the Sheep Gulch parking area and ramp. The work at Sheep Gulch will require closing the facility from Tuesday, Sept. 17 until Friday, Sept. 20.

According to BTNF, the closure could be extended if inclement weather or rain persists. Seal coating, which is “long overdue for preserving the life of the asphalt,” is temperature-dependent and needs to be completed before the days become too cold.

BTNF staff have been working closely with the contractor to come up with a plan that will have the least impact on rafting and fishing operations. While this work is occurring, river users are encouraged to boat the upper stretches of river and take out at the West Table boat ramp. BTNF acknowledged that the temporary closure of the Sheep Gulch access “severely limits the ability to boat the whitewater stretch of the canyon.”

“I ask for everyone’s patience and flexibility to work around this temporary closure so the work can be done as quickly as possible,” Jackson District Ranger Todd Stiles said in the announcement.

Signage will be in place to let river visitors know about the temporary closure and personnel will be on site to answer questions.

This project is funded by the Intermountain Region of the Forest Service as a capital improvement project to help address maintenance backlog needs.
