JACKSON, Wyo. — Applications to join the shed antler hunt motorcade from the Teton County Fairgrounds to the Elk Refuge Road open Saturday, April 1, at 7 a.m., according to the Town of Jackson.

The Elk refuge Road is the access point to National Forest, including Curtis Canyon.

According to the town, the application process for the 2022 motorcade was successful and the 2023 process will be similar with minor changes.

Applications to join the motorcade close April 15. Positions in the motorcade will be released on April 16 and the shed hunt opens May 1 at 6 a.m.

Changes to the 2023 application are as follows:

  1. Vehicle information is no longer required on the application, nor will participants be required to identify the car they are bringing.
  2. Participants will now be asked for a valid driver’s license or ID card number and state information.
  3. Participants filling out an application will now be required to show their DL/ID at the line-up to validate their spot in the motorcade.
  4. Any participants who plan to use the Teton County Fairground services for horse stalls are asked to make reservations now so staff can ensure enough stalls are set up.

The Wyoming Legislature passed a bill during the 2023 session giving residents a seven-day head start for the shed hunt. Governor Gordon signed the bill into law with an effective date of July 1, making this year’s hunt the last time non-residents will have equal access.

In 2024, the Town of Jackson will also begin charging a $20 application fee for the motorcade.
