YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Visitor season at Yellowstone National Park (YNP) is getting underway.

On Friday, May 1, the park opened its East Entrance, along with road segments connecting the East Entrance to Fishing Bridge, and Canyon Village to Bridge Bay. The North, Northeast and West entrances are also open. The South Entrance, a favorite among Jacksonites, is expected to open on May 8.

“More park roads will reopen throughout the month of May, conditions permitting,” YNP posted to Facebook Friday morning. “Weather is variable this time of year, and temporary road closures can still occur due to hazardous road conditions.”

The only park road open year-round is the one connecting the North and Northeast Entrances, both located in southern Montana. Most roads will stay open until Oct. 31.

Visitors might encounter limited services as park shops and restaurants open on a staggered schedule. YNP encourages visitors to have flexible travel plans, and to stay up to date on road conditions using the park roads website, calling (307) 344-2117 for recorded information, or signing up for text alerts by texting “82190” to 888-777.
