JACKSON, Wyo. — Search efforts will continue tomorrow morning for a snowboarder who is believed to be buried on Taylor Mountain.
An avalanche was triggered at 2:45 p.m. today by one of two snowboarders on a south-facing slope. Nearly 30 volunteers from Teton County Search & Rescue and Wyoming Department of Transportation searched the slide path and debris pile until it got dark.
The crown of the slab was two-three feet at its deepest with an average depth of six to eight inches, according to a report Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center.
Teams used avalanche beacons, a probe line of seven people, and a drone to attempt to locate the man.
“It’s a sad day,” said TCSAR Advisor Cody Lockhart
The Coal Creek parking lot will be closed tomorrow, April 2 to keep people off of Taylor Mountain and help facilitate a more efficient search. Other areas of Teton Pass will be open, but backcountry users are being asked to avoid the pass altogether.
The public is reminded to use extra caution in the backcountry during the ongoing health crisis.
