JACKSON, Wyo. — As more and more hunters venture into the backcountry with the opening of rifle elk season, Teton County Search and Rescue can probably expect to see plenty of the fall colors in the coming weeks.

Search and Rescue was called out on Sunday around noon to assist a lost hunter in the Togwotee area. The hunter had cell reception but got turned around and could not find her way back through the rugged terrain.

A team of four TCSAR members responded in the RZR side-by-side. Armed with bear spray, COVID supplies and protection, and 24-hour packs in case they had to spend the night outdoors, the team mobilized. After driving the RZR as far as they could, they hiked in about a mile to find the hunter.

After assessing her condition, the team walked with her back to safety and returned to the hangar, completing the mission in about six hours.
