JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The staff at the National Elk Refuge might be having a little bit of déjà vu after seeing the LL Bean holiday catalogue this Christmas.

Didn’t we do this months ago?

Refuge staff has been anxiously flipping through LL Bean holiday catalogs this month, looking for familiar scenes and models after serving as a shooting location for the well-known retail company earlier this year. Finding the most recognizable shot was easy: the refuge’s historic Miller House is prominently featured on the cover of a recently released 2018 Gift Guide issue.

A production crew and special effects team spent two days in July at the iconic homestead replicating a winter holiday scene and capturing images for the widely distributed seasonal catalogs that feature clothing and outdoor recreation equipment. Senior photo producer Melissa Klein explained that shooting out of season isn’t ideal but is necessary considering the production time it takes to put together the catalogs.

Goods are first designed, fabricated, run through a product testing lab, then field tested before approved and ready for marketing.

Refuge outreach coordinator Lori Iverson was on location at the Miller House with the crew during the photo shoot and allowed to take pictures on the condition that images of the models sporting this year’s line of clothing not be shared before the catalogs debuted. Now that the cat is out of the bag—or should we say the dog is on the cover—it’s fair game to have a little fun and post pictures of the professional catalog shoot.
