WILSON, Wyo. — On Friday, Dec. 20, R Park’s Winter Solstice Celebration and Lantern Trail illumination will take place from 4 to 7 p.m.

Cooking in the Dark will serve a spread of comfort food, including mac’ n’ cheese,
chili and a s’mores bar. Community members can warm up with hot apple cider and hot
chocolate too. Those 21+ can enjoy spiked versions of the holiday classics, courtesy of Wyoming Whiskey.

Visitors can also enjoy a peaceful stroll along the park’s snow-covered trails, illuminated by the warm glow of solar lanterns decorated by Teton County students. There are over 275
handcrafted lanterns created by students from the following teacher classrooms and programs:

  • Heidi Thompson, Colter Elementary School
  • Elyse Mock, Munger Mountain Elementary School
  • Linsay Alexandra, Wilson Elementary School
  • Victoria Wade, Girls Actively Participating
  • Amy Aronowitz, Jackson Hole Middle School
  • Paige Fisher, Mountain Academy Early Childhood Program
  • Early Childhood Program, Kid’s Ranch at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

For those unable to attend the event or those looking to experience extra holiday cheer, the lantern trail will remain illuminated nightly from Dec. 9 through Jan. 9, 2025.

The event is free and open to the entire community. R Park is located at 4270 River Springs Drive in Wilson, at the intersection of highways 22 and 390. Limited parking is available at R Park, and additional parking is recommended at the Stilson Lot. From the Stilson Lot, attendees are asked to use the community pathway to access R Park and not the highway.
