WILSON, Wyo. — Rendezvous Park (R Park), a program of the Jackson Hole Land Trust, will host the R Park Lantern Trail, in lieu of the Winter Solstice Celebrations of years past.

R Park’s pathways will be lit from Dec. 21 through Jan. 2 with solar lanterns decorated by local Jackson Hole art classes. The self-guided solstice celebration is sponsored by the Bank of Jackson Hole.

250 lanterns will guide the way for families and community members of all ages through the open field, wooden glades, and along the pond. On Dec. 21, free, individually-wrapped cookies will be available at the welcome structure from 4-6 pm to celebrate opening night.

There will be no group festivities this year, and people are encouraged to enjoy the lights at their own convenience and in a safe manner respecting Teton Country social distancing guidelines.

“Although this is a trying time and we cannot celebrate as we normally would, we are glad to offer a little light in the dark,” said Jr Rodriguez, JHLT community conservation manager/R Park director. “The R Park Winter Solstice was one of our inaugural events upon opening the park 6 years ago, and it has been a magical event that many families and visitors look forward to – not to mention our staff! So we hope the R Park Lantern Trail captures the spirit of our usual winter solstice celebration.”

R Park is located at the intersection of Highway 22 and the Teton-Village Road, 4270 River Springs Drive, Wilson. Participants should avoid crowding and follow all Teton County COVID-19 guidelines.
