JACKSON, Wyo. — Town Council unanimously approved new fee rates at the parking garage on Millward Street at its Monday meeting. The motion declared that the first 10 hours will be free followed by $4 per hour and a $20 a day maximum.

The fee change will go into effect on Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. The new payment schedule represents a slight adjustment to the charges; in November 2025, the Town of Jackson implemented fees for structure users between midnight and 4 a.m. at $5 per hour with a maximum daily rate of $20.

According to Teton County Transportation Manager Dr. Charlotte Frei, the recommendation was based on parking garage utilization data. Most stays, according to the data, are relatively short: 75% of winter stays were under 11 hours, while 85% of summer stays were eight hours or fewer and 95% of them were less than 11.5 hours.

Frei also said at the meeting that in the 279-space garage, typical occupancy ranged from 120 to 150 vehicles. “We can say with confidence that all summer long there have been a hundred spaces available and as many as 150 spaces available at any given time.”

There was no public comment.

On top of the fee change, it was also recommended to discontinue the local discount program in favor of a simpler system, since last year’s program struggled, despite clear interest from residents.

“The resident discount pilot confirmed strong demand for affordable overnight parking among local residents,” the staff report reads. “However, the program was significantly more complex to administer than anticipated. … Of the more than 100 applicants, 60 met eligibility criteria and received discount codes.”

No motion was made to create a new resident discount system.
