JACKSON, Wyo. — The parking garage saga is coming to an end, at least for this winter.
Beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 19, paid parking will go into effect at the Town of Jackson’s (TOJ) parking garage on the corner of Millward Street and Simpson Avenue. Between midnight and 4 a.m., the parking garage will cost $5 per hour for general users, with a maximum daily rate of $20. TOJ said in a press release that it will offer a discount program for up to 100 local residents who utilize the garage for overnight parking during winter months, when overnight street parking is prohibited. Those users will pay $4 per night.
The application for local residents looking to park their vehicle at a discount is now open and accessible here. For those interested in applying for the resident discount program, here is everything to know:
- Applicants must prove that they live within the Jackson town limits with a rental lease or utility bill that is less than 60 days old.
- Applicants must have a valid ID and valid vehicle registration.
- Applicants must be available for an in-person vehicle verification at Town Hall. A time slot can be selected on the application.
- The discount program is valid from the date of issue through April 16, 2026.
- The discount is nontransferable and can only be used for the vehicle approved by TOJ staff.
For those who get approved for the discount program, here are the rules per Jackson Municipal Code:
- Parking availability in the garage is not guaranteed.
- Vehicles that exit within 10 minutes of entry will not be charged.
- Vehicles must be moved at least once every 30 days.
- Commercial vehicles, trailers and oversized vehicles are prohibited.
- No cars are allowed on the roof of the garage between 3 and 7 a.m. until April 15.
- Clearance in the garage is 7 feet; vehicles exceeding this height are not eligible for a discount.
- Vehicles must display valid registration and license plates while in the garage.
- Dually vehicles must use the Simpson Avenue entrance only.
The payment system and arm bars will continue to be tested over the next couple of weeks. TOJ asks users currently parked in the garage to exit before 10 a.m. on Nov. 19, when the gates are lowered and the new system takes effect. Drivers can re-enter after 10 a.m. to receive a fresh ticket.
According to TOJ, the parking garage costs the Town $50,000 to $150,000 every year, and staff spends over 1,000 hours on operations, cleaning and maintenance. Town Council has decided to prioritize garage access for local employees, customers, visitors, residents and airport shuttle users.
