JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County’s own Natalia D. Macker has been elected president of the Wyoming County Commissioners Association (WCCA), the first Teton County commissioner to hold the position and the second woman to do so.
Macker has served on the Teton County Board of County Commissioners since 2015, and she was re-elected in November. She will hold the WCCA position through the end of 2026.
“I am very honored to have been elected by my peers across the state to lead our organization for the next two years,” Macker said in an email to Buckrail. “As a commissioner, I have benefited greatly from the education, mentorship and partnership of my colleagues through the WCCA and its staff. … I am excited for this opportunity and eager for the challenge of supporting commissioners in taking unified action.”
The WCCA, according to its mission statement, aims to connect representatives from Wyoming’s 23 counties through networking and education. Macker said she anticipates that the key areas of focus during her term will be “local control, property tax, local government funding, infrastructure needs and issues around state and federal lands.”
Macker noted that this new accolade led her to recall a speech she heard journalist Cokie Roberts deliver at the Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus before her death.
“During her remarks, [Roberts] talked about how Wyoming has a remarkable history of firsts for women, but those haven’t always been followed up with a second,” Macker said. “I was reminded of this when I learned that I am the second woman to hold this post. I have consistently worked to advance women’s representation in all levels of our government, but especially at the local level. Wyoming has a strong ethos of local government, and I will continue to work to involve more women in local government leadership.”
