Cokie Roberts headlines Leap into Leadership focusing on Wyoming women’s role past and future

WYOMING – With the goal of celebrating women’s firsts in our state and looking towards the future for women in Wyoming, the Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus (WyoWLC) announced Emmy-winning anchorwoman and best-selling author Cokie Roberts will deliver the keynote address at the 12th Annual Leap into Leadership (L2L) event January 23-24, 2019 in Cheyenne.

In her more than forty years in broadcasting, Cokie Roberts has won countless awards, including three Emmys. She has been inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame and was cited by the American Women in Radio and Television as one of the fifty greatest women in the history of broadcasting. In addition to her reporting, Roberts has written six New York Times bestsellers, most dealing with the roles of women in US history.

“As the WyoWLC marks our 12th anniversary of Leap into Leadership, we are very excited to have this opportunity to bring a thrilling speaker like Cokie Roberts to discuss women’s history and how women continue to shape local, state and federal politics,” said WyoWLC Co-Chair Representative Sue Wilson. “Cokie brings with her an extensive knowledge on how women shaped this country and continued to break through boundaries in the workplace and politics.”

WyoWLC Co-Chair Representative Cathy Connolly added, “Leap into Leadership strives to be a place every year where women throughout Wyoming can come together to ensure we have diverse voices at the table and that these voices are well equipped with the skills, networking abilities and support to be successful leaders in any leadership role they fill. We are very excited to provide Wyoming women the opportunity to hear from Cokie Roberts and hopefully be inspired to seek out being a leader locally, state or nationwide.”

Cokie Roberts’s number one bestseller, We Are Our Mothers’ Daughters, is an account of American women’s roles and relationships over time. Roberts’s other books—Founding Mothers, published in 2004; and Ladies of Liberty in 2008; along with her recently published Capital Dames, about women and Washington in the Civil War—all also rated as New York Times bestsellers. Roberts’ latest release is a lavishly illustrated children’s book, Ladies of Liberty: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation.

“2019 will be a great year for Wyoming as throughout the year we will celebrate being the first state to recognize women’s the right to vote,” said WyoWLC Co-Chair Senator Affie Ellis. “Celebrating that history means we must also look to the future and discuss how we can continue to encourage women to run for office by providing them the tools and support they need to be successful.”

L2L 2019 will be held January 23-24, 2019 at the Little America Hotel in Cheyenne. The program will feature workshops on bolstering female leadership across Wyoming. Tickets for L2L, both the full schedule and the dinner, are available for purchase now.

The cost for attending the entire program is $75. Cost for the dinner and reception is $50. Scholarship opportunities are available.
