JACKSON, Wyo. — Local Boy Scout, Carter Selleck, 14, has created two little libraries filled with free books for his Eagle Scout project.

Selleck is a member of Boy Scout Troop 67. He said he was inspired to create the little libraries because of his past experiences at the Teton Literacy Center.
“I used to do clubs and stuff there so I wanted to help them by giving them a library because their indoor library is getting filled,” Selleck said.
He built one library situated outside of Teton Literacy Center and another library next to the Redmond Street bus stop. Both little libraries are currently open, with books stocked by Selleck as well as the Literacy Center. “I stocked the Harry Potter books and they [Teton Literacy Center] stocked the rest,” Selleck said.

Selleck completed his project with the help of his troop members as well as leaders. He designed the plans for the library and led 10 of his troop members during the building process.
“The most challenging part was probably leading everyone. I had to tell everyone all the plans and give everyone a job to do,” Selleck said.
Selleck asked local artist, June Nystrom, to help paint the Redmond Street little library and received permission from Debbie Schlinger to install the library on private property.
“It is really well painted,” Selleck said, “There are some animals reading books on the box.”
His parents, Matt and Emily Selleck, also helped with the project. They are both registered leaders for the Troop.
Boy Scouts and becoming an Eagle Scout runs in the family explained Selleck, “My dad is an Eagle Scout and my brother [Joey Selleck] is working on finishing his project,” he said.
“Boy Scouts has taught me to help people at all times, I will definitely take that with me in the future. I am using that now with my friends,” said Selleck.
