JACKSON, Wyo. — Like many bands that have been forced off of the road and into their safe havens, Bozeman stringband Laney Lou & the Bird Dogs is fundraising for a new album. Rather than sitting idle, the award-winning quintet has written a fresh batch of songs is asking fans to meet their Kickstarter goal of twenty-two thousands dollars. According to the band’s website, tonight’s sit-down show at the Silver Dollar Showroom will be their last of the year and an intimate way to share some of the new material.

Some may recognize the group from the 2018 Targhee Bluegrass Festival. They’re comprised of singers Lena Schiffer (guitar, washboard, stomp box), Matt Demarais (banjo, dobro, guitar), Brian Kassay (fiddle, mandolin, harmonica), and Josh Moore (guitar) along with bassist Ethan Demarais. The group brings high-octane stompgrass, pushing the tempo of modern folk, blues and country with four-part vocal harmony. This energy was recognized in their hometown by being voted Best Bluegrass Band the last four years. They released a debut studio album of original material, Sweet Little Lies (2018), which followed two live albums—The Vigilante Session (2017) and Laney Lou & the Bird Dogs (2016).

For a glimpse into the live show, check out their January 2019 session below from the Emmy award-winning PBS series “11th and Grant,” which is based in Montana.

Laney Lou & the Bird Dogs perform 7–10 p.m. on Tuesday Nov. 24 at the Silver Dollar Showroom. Free.
