Landslide caught on video in northern Idaho Landslide Terrain Buckrail - Jackson Hole, news

IDAHO – After an extremely snowy winter and fairly wet spring so far, landslides are the order of the day in Jackson Hole and throughout the region.

Around here, instability has been an issue in both the Snake River and Hoback canyons. Undoubtedly, a few remote backcountry slopes have been shifting around as well. And then, of course, right in the middle of Jackson, we have our own slow-motion landslide that got slipping in 2014 and is still showing signs of movement.

Just what does a landslide look like? The Idaho Department of Transportation caught an example of the rare event on video just moments after they had closed US 95 last Friday for fear the hillside was sloughing near Bonner’s Ferry in northern Idaho.

An estimated 800 cubic yards gave way in the event that closed the highway for a few hours. Currently, one lane is open as crews keep a close for any moving earth.
