JACKSON, Wyo. — Calling all landscapers, maintenance staff and lawn care professionals! Teton Conservation District (TCD) invites you to the annual Trout Friendly Landscaper Certification Workshop on Thursday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Teton County Library.

The workshop is FREE, but registration is required.

At this interactive workshop, TCD will outline the Trout Friendly Lawn practices. Experts will also discuss winter maintenance and snow management strategies, pesticide monitoring efforts in Teton County, the challenges and opportunities of working with native plants and more. Not a landscaper? Encourage your landscaper to attend.

Since launching in 2020, the Trout Friendly Landscaper & Business Partner Certification Program has trained over 30 local landscaping businesses to create and maintain beautiful, sustainable lawns while reducing fertilizer and pesticide runoff

Clean streams and healthy water benefit everyone, and we appreciate the landscaping businesses that commit to Trout Friendly practices. To maintain certification, landscapers, HOAs and golf courses must attend this annual training, ensuring they continue using best practices to protect local waterways. We encourage both returning and new businesses to secure their certification this year!

Want to do your part? Here’s what you can practice in your own yard:

  • Limit fertilization: Use slow-release or organic fertilizers sparingly and never fertilize within 20 feet of water.
  • Be water-wise: Water your lawn at dawn or dusk every other day, avoid watering during rain or drought and keep mower blades at three to four inches to reduce water and fertilizer needs.
  • Plant natives and protect streams: Maintain a five-foot natural buffer around water bodies to help filter runoff.
  • Use herbicides and pesticides responsibly: Only treat noxious weeds and opt for spot spraying or mechanical removal when possible.

Take Action Today!

Landscapers: Register now for the April 10 workshop here.
