Historical NPS picture of El Capitan and Yosemite Valley

Yosemite Valley, CA. – Jimmy Chin spends most of his time in the Tetons. Over the past several years, Jimmy has been working closely with his fellow North Face athlete, Alex Honnold. In June of 2017, Alex became the first person to ever free solo climb El Capitan in Yosemite. This means that Alex ascended the 3,200′ monolith without any protective climbing gear… no ropes, no carabiners…just a chalk bag. It took him 3 hours and 56 minutes. One can only imagine the consequences.

Since the success of his first film Meru, Jimmy has been working on this project with Alex: Free Solo. The film will be officially released in September, below is the trailer.

“I’ve known and worked with Alex for over ten years and have been personally inspired by him on many levels. Being alongside him throughout the process of preparing and eventually sending El Cap, solo, without a rope, has been one of the wildest rides of my life…and I’ve been on a few” – Jimmy Chin (via Facebook)
