JACKSON, Wyo. — Students from Jackson Hole High School’s (JHHS) Rotary Interact Club will host a car wash on Saturday, May 24, from noon to 5 p.m. at JHHS to support the Riebeeck East Combined School (RECS).
RECS is a school located on the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
The Rotary Interact Club started its work in South Africa in 2022, hosting a car wash to fund the salary of a math and science teacher, Mr. Mgoqi, at Ntsika Secondary School, according to the event announcement. In 2023, the money raised helped fund new staff room furniture at RECS. In 2024, the club donated to the Rotary International Polio Plus fund to support the eradication of Polio. This year, raised funds will be put toward renovating RECS’ kitchen.
“Many students rely on this kitchen for their only meals of the day, and the current kitchen is subpar, with a lack of countertops, storage space and equipment,” the announcement reads.
“We look forward to our car wash every year,” Club President Colin Papé said. “Its ties to international communities have helped open our members’ eyes to the global impact they can truly have. And this year we get to work with our sister high school in South Africa again. It’s a beautiful opportunity and always highly anticipated.”
The event will be held in JHHS’ student parking lot, which is on the west side of the school. Expect to pay $20 per wash, or $10 per wash for Teton County School District students and teachers.
