JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Foundation is encouraging community members to consider making a comprehensive list of medications and surgical history to keep on hand in case of an emergency.
The list should include the name, dosage and frequency of all medications currently being taken, in addition to allergies and past surgical or medical procedures.
According to the JH Fire/EMS Foundation, these lists can help first responders and EMS members “determine the best course of action” in an emergency and ensure the most effective care.
A study published in 2020 by the National Institute of Health has also confirmed that carrying medication lists improves patient safety in emergency situations, both by raising patient awareness and empowering individuals and by informing first responders and emergency caregivers.
The Foundation recommends keeping your list on the fridge or in a purse, somewhere accessible.
The JH Fire/EMS annual call response increased in 2022, with 61 percent of those calls related to rescue/EMS.
Help them help you by ensuring all your information is accessible and available during a time of need.
