JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Jackson Hole Crimestoppers wants to help you keep the “humbug” out of Christmas with a few helpful tips and reminders.
Think about what your packaging says to a would-be thief. Leaving that empty box your Samsung 80-inch flat screen 4k Ultra HD Smart LED TV came in out at the curb for trash or recycling pickup is telling the whole neighborhood what you have inside your house. Keep these boxes out of sight or take them immediately to be recycled.
For that matter, make sure packages delivered to your door are taken in as soon as possible. ‘Porch Pirates’ are especially prevalent this time of year. See if it’s possible to make arrangements with your regular UPS or FedEx driver to leave deliveries somewhere out of sight, like inside a garage.
Remember to keep all receipts for major purchases in a safe place along with serial numbers if possible.
Holiday lights outside the home do more than spread Christmas cheer. They also light up areas around windows and doors where burglars might lurk. Don’t advertise on social media any plans for traveling and leaving your home unoccupied. If your trip will be an extended one, inform the Police or Sheriff’s Office of your plans and ask for a patrol check.
Jackson Hole Crimestoppers also urges residents seeing any suspicious individuals lurking around neighborhoods to report them at 733-2331. Help keep the “happy” in your holidays.
