JACKSON HOLE, WYO — The 2019 Jackson Lake Ice Off Derby is in the books with Matt Nardacci taking home bragging rights for the prize lake trout.
Matt hooked a trophy-worthy 24-pounder with help from teammates Tony Nardacci and Joe Wilson. Jerry Adams took 2nd place, with Ben Petersen placing 3rd.
“It was pretty easy. I caught it on the end of my line in the water,” was all Matt would divulge of the secret location of his catch. “I couldn’t have landed it without the help of my teammates.”
Sam Dornan, age 12, caught the winning brown trout at 3lbs, 1oz. Tony Ottobre was second. Ralph Hlebak hooked the 3rd place brown.
Tom Schachten snagged the winning cutthroat with a 3lb, 4oz fish. Dennis Haderlin and Boen Peterson rounded out the top 3.
The Derby takes place every spring when the ice is off the lake. This spring it took place May 18. The longstanding event, approaching four decades of history, promotes catch-and-release fishing.
