WYOMING – Wyoming Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal crash of a motorcyclist near Hulett over the weekend.
Troopers were dispatched on August 4 around 2:06pm to milepost 18 on US 212/Haul Road.
A 2005 Chevrolet Trail Blazer was stopped facing westbound on US212 waiting for a group of motorcycles traveling eastbound. The driver of the Trail Blazer attempted to make a left turn onto Little Missouri Road and pulled out in front of a 2016 Harley Davidson Trike motorcycle.
The motorcycle collided with the right rear passenger door of the Chevy Trail Blazer. Driver inattention from the driver of the Chevy Trail Blazer is being investigated as the cause of the crash.
The driver of the Harley Davidson has been identified as Nancy Robinson, 54, of Bloomfield, Indiana. Robinson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
This is the 62nd fatality on Wyoming’s highways in 2018 compared to 87 in 2017, 64 in 2016, and 87 in 2015 to date.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol has partnered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, and the Wyoming Department of Transportation in an effort to raise awareness of motorcycle safety and motorcycle enthusiasts traveling to the 78th annual Sturgis motorcycle rally.
The campaign is titled “Safe 2 Sturgis.” There will be a Safe 2 Sturgis Motorcycle Campaign event on August 7, 2018 at 11am at the Visitor’s Center Exit 199 I-90 Wyoming. Wyoming Highway Patrol will have guest speakers from NHTSA and surrounding law enforcement agencies at the event informing the public about the importance of motorcycle safety.
In 2017, 235 motorcycle crashes were reported in Wyoming. Seventeen of those crashes were fatal. Wyoming averages three motorcycle fatalities per year during the Sturgis rally alone.
The campaign runs from August 3-17.
