JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County is seeking public input on the rezoning of subarea 7.2, Hog Island.
Teton County Planning Staff will host a neighborhood meeting to introduce and discuss the future rezoning of Teton County subarea 7.2: Hog Island Home Business. This subarea extends along the west side of South Highway 89 from approximately Munger Mountain Road to Kdc Lane.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 1 at 6 p.m. in the Commons area of Munger Mountain Elementary School at 7605 US-89, Jackson, WY 83001, and online via Zoom.
On June 7, The Teton County Board of County Commissioners approved the fiscal year 2022 work plan, which directs staff to update the zoning for Hog Island.
Since the adoption of the Jackson/Teton County Comprehensive Plan in 2012, the County has intended to rezone Complete Neighborhood subareas to align use and development allowances with the vision and character described in the Comprehensive Plan.
According to the Comprehensive Plan, The goal is to preserve the long-term, working family residential character of the subarea, with residents operating businesses out of their homes as an accessory use. This subarea should not transition into an industrial area like South Park Business Park nor should it transition into a highway commercial neighborhood like Hoback Junction.
The subarea is also recognized as part of the gateway to Jackson and includes crucial wildlife habitat at the base of Munger Mountain. As a result, the County believes development should be located and designed to protect both a scenic foreground along the highway and wildlife habitat. Wildlife permeability through development and across the highway is an important consideration in this district and building and site design should facilitate wildlife movement.
This meeting is the first step in the rezoning process and is an initial opportunity for the community to provide input on the project and to have questions answered directly by Teton County Planning Staff.
