JACKSON, Wyo. — In 1951, Editor of the Jackson Hole Guide, Floy Tonkin, penned these words to her readers:

“It’s Christmastime again in Jackson’s Hole. The snow is falling steadily and the gusty wind is piling it into drifts, spiraling off the top of the mountains to build cornices and caves.

Around the Square the garlands of colored lights are strung; the big Christmas tree is alight; and Santa’s mail box is set up. Inside the clubs and stores are bright lights and warmth – not only the warmth of fires but the warmth of friendship and hospitality.

They say the pursuit of happiness is like the pursuit of rabbits… both are fast runners, and as you don’t wait for the rabbit to come and jump in your frying pan, neither should you wait for happiness to run you down.

So as we go by the lighted windows, we open the doors and find therein the joys of the season.”
