WYOMING – Increased police presence may have aided in successfully achieving zero fatal crashes over St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Wyoming Highway Patrol stepped up its efforts over last weekend with added troopers patrolling state highways. Troopers utilized a federal highway safety grant for DUI overtime to increase law enforcement presence in Wyoming.
It was a busy three-day period, but a safe one. State troopers wore green as they traditionally do over the extended holiday weekend. The department reported 1,139 traffic stops from March 17 through March 19, with 17 impaired drivers arrested as a result of those stops. A total of 443 citations were issued for speeding, and 65 seatbelt violations were also ticketed.
Dispatchers with WHP also stayed very busy. They dispatched 1,862 events and fielded 1,901 phone calls over the extended holiday weekend. REDDI (Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately) reports accounted for 43 of those dispatched calls.
