JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole and Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center is closing again amid a spike in new COVID cases and Teton County moving back to “red” risk level.
The closure is effective immediately but limited services will be offered outside the visitor center seven days a week starting Sunday, Aug. 22, weather permitting.
The visitor center re-opened June after a long COVID-induced closure and hit the ground running. According to Chamber of Commerce Vice President Rick Howe, visits to all local visitor centers were up 226% last month compared to July 2020.
The Jackson Hole/Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center is owned and operated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on the National Elk Refuge.The six agencies that operate from the visitor center are the Bridger-Teton National Forest, Grand Teton Association, Grand Teton National Park, National Elk Refuge, Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce and Wyoming Game & Fish.
